According to Dan Rafael of espn.com, WBO Super Middleweight champion Robert Stieglitz will defend his belt against hard punching Edison Miranda on January 9th in Magdeburg, Germany.

Stieglitz (36-2, 22 KOs, ranked number-10 by 15rounds.com) won his belt by stopping Hungary’s Karoly Balzsay in the 11th round in August. For his defense against Miranda, Stieglitz will return to Magdeburg, where he lives.

“My dream becomes reality,” said Stieglitz, 28, who has won five in a row since Andrade stopped him in the eighth round of a title elimination bout in March 2008. “It was a dream and a very big wish of mine that I could make my first world title defense in my hometown. It worked out. This makes me happy and I hope for the support of the Magdeburg fans.

“I’ve already had a look at Edison Miranda. I already know how I can box him. He’s a strong man. I think we’ll have a thrilling fight. I’m already in top form, already at my fight weight, and could box immediately.”

Miranda (33-4, 29 KOs), who lives in Puerto Rico and has been fighting regularly in the United States since 2005, will be making his second trip to Germany. In 2006, he challenged then-middleweight titlist Abraham and lost a controversial decision in a slugfest during which he broke Abraham’s jaw.

“We know that Miranda can punch very hard. Everyone could see that in the fight against Arthur Abraham,” said Torsten Schmitz, Stieglitz’s trainer. “I think Robert and Miranda will have an action-packed fight.”

“We are very excited about the fight and believe Edison will win his first world title,” said Warriors Boxing chief Leon Margules, who co-promotes Miranda with Dan Goossen, Joe’s brother. “Joe has done a great job adding a new dimension to Edison’s power. Going back to Germany is tough but I’m sure Edison learned since the first Abraham fight. That was his first big fight. He has a lot more experience now.”
