Joey Beltran turns Houston Alexander into a stepping stone at “New Year’s Revolution” – Watch this Fight Exclusively on GFL

Houston “The Assassin” Alexander (9-6), the once-upon-a-time-brawler who has seemingly fallen in love with leg kicks and evasion, proved once again the ground game is his Achilles heel last night in Tulsa, Okla.

Coming off a unanimous decision loss to Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson at “UFC: The Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale” in December, Alexander was pitted against a much heavier* Joey “The Mexicutioner” Beltran (10-3) at “New Year’s Revolution”, a 5150/XFL co-promoted event held at the Spirit Bank Event Center.

It was a scene we have witnessed countless times before; wrestler takes striker to the ground and pounds him out. Alexander did his best in round one to land leg kicks and move side-to-side to avoid the takedown. However, it was not long before the Nebraska DJ ended up on his back eating elbows and punches.

Round two was a repeat of the first, except a swollen eye, a cut, and a pint of blood was added to the mix. Beltran put Alexander on his back again and pounded away. This caused Alexander to finally turtle-up, cover his head with his hands, and ultimately forced the referee to stop the barrage.

For Beltran, who was coming off a decision loss to Tony Lopez last October, it was a tremendous victory. He improved his record to 10-4, and turned a fighter who at one time was one of the hottest up-and-coming prospects in the UFC’s light heavyweight division into a giant stepping stone.

*It is relevant to note that Beltran weighed in at 225 lbs. and Alexander weighed in at 209 lbs.
