Brett Rogers on ESPN’s “First Take”
By: Dallas Winston (TheGarv.com)
CagePotato was quick on the draw in posting Brett Rogers’ appearance on ESPN’s “First Take” program.
One of the rather interesting aspects of MMA going mainstream are painfully awkward interviews like this. You have a pleasant housewife-type (who I’m sure is fully qualified, of course) attempting to comfortably interact with a 6′5″, 280 pound man with a mohawk who mauls people in a cage for a living.
Amidst forced and uncomfortable laughter on behalf of the interviewer, the two find tiny ledges of common ground like “waking up and working out” and the difficulty of pronouncing Fedor Oooma-La-Nenko’s name to briefly stand on.

Programming alert: Brett Rogers to appear on ESPN2 today (Nov. 4)
By: Jesse Holland (MMAmania.com)

Undefeated Strikeforce heavyweight Brett Rogers will make live appearances from Bristol, Connecticut today (Nov. 4) on ESPN2 programs “First Take” at 10 am ET and then again on “SportsNation” at 4 pm ET.
“The Grim” will headline the Strikeforce/CBS live prime time event “Fedor vs. Rogers” this Saturday (Nov. 7) from the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Illinois at 10 pm ET against famed heavyweight attraction Fedor Emelianenko.
“There’s loopholes in everybody’s game, and in his game, the way I see it, he can sometimes get a little sloppy. He is a patient guy, but when he feels that he has to give, he kind of rushes it a little bit. Just on that, I can kinda set him up for a knockout just by faking an injury or something, just jump in and out his offense a little more than not. Hit and move. Hit and move. Fedor, he’s definitely done and proved to the world that he’s capable of doing whatever he needs to to get the job done. That right there –- that’s the type of fighter that I’m looking forward to fighting because it’s all about testing your might and he’s definitely got it to test.”

STRIKEFORCE PREDICTIONS
By Gary Herman
Fedor Emelianenko vs. Brett Rogers
Is there any possible way not to take Emelianenko in this fight? No, there isn’t. I’m tired of hearing “well, Rogers has a puncher’s chance” because so did every other fighter that Fedor stepped in the ring with. They all lost. There’s a reason for that, and it is, simply put, Fedor is the best fighter in the history of the sport. Rogers will not make history. He’ll be history. Fedor wins by first round submission.
Jake Shields vs. Jason “Mayhem” Miller
Shields and Miller will make a very interesting fight. Miller is the type of fighter that is extremely difficult to submit. He’s only been submitted once in 27 fights, and that was over seven years ago. That severely limits the jiu-jitsu wizardry of Shields. Shields’ only way to win will be by decision. On the other hand, Miller is a much more well-rounded fighter. He’s capable of a knockout or submission at anytime. While I believe Shields is the better fighter, Miller is a terrible match-up for him. In the fight of the night, Jason Miller pulls the upset with a unanimous decision win.
Gegard Mousasi vs. Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou
Over the past year-and-a-half, all Mousasi has done is defeat Denis Kang, Dong Sik Yoon, Melvin Manhoef, Ronaldo Souza, Mark Hunt, and Renato “Babalu” Sobral. And, Mousasi finished all of the fights by knockout or submission. That is definitely one of the more impressive runs the sport has seen. Now, he takes on an over-hyped and under talented Sokoudjou. His last big win came over two years ago against Ricardo Arona. Since then, Sokoudjou has been living off the two-fight legend he built in Pride FC (wins over Arona and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira). He’s done nothing to prove those wins weren’t a fluke, and he won’t do anything again here. Is Mousasi the best light heavyweight in the world? No, but he’ll get one step closer to the top. Mousasi wins by second round TKO.
Fabricio Werdum vs. Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva
Due to the seemingly unlikelihood of Alistair Overeem ever fighting in the United States again, Werdum vs. Silva is a fight to see who gets the next crack at Emelianenko (assuming he beats Rogers). Werdum is a talented jiu-jitsu fighter, but recently, he has had difficulty with powerful strikers. Both Junior Dos Santos and Andrei Arlovski were able to defeat Werdum. Mike Kyle even briefly looked good before his ineptitude on the ground was exposed. Like Werdum, Silva’s also a very good jiu-jitsu fighter, but Silva has a big size advantage, and that will give Werdum problems. Silva gets the spot in the next CBS main event with a second round TKO win.

Rogers Quotes:
“The hardest part has been having someone (camera persons) on the mat during training that I CAN’T hit. Normally, the rule is, if you’re on the mat, you’re fair game to get some.”
“It’s been fun to share my story. I feel that I am living the American success story. And I hope that others can take some level of inspiration from it.”
“I am really looking forward to seeing the show, but to be honest, I won’t be in the right frame of mind next week to really enjoy it. I’ll have to go back and watch it in a couple of weeks to digest it all.”
“The film crew has been here for more than five days. I tell you, it is a surreal experience to have the world watching you, watching me do what my fight team and I have been doing for five years in relative obscurity day in and day out. All of a sudden, to have my life become worthy of this attention is amazing, shocking almost. But we are having fun with it.”
“We’ve had various training partners roll through the past few days and it’s been odd to explain what the cameras are doing here. They aren’t expecting it. The first few days the crew was here, it was a bit suffocating. To have them shadow me through my every move, not just in training, but at home with my family, during meals, everywhere. After a few days, though, I kind of got used to it.”
Roger’s trainer and manager, Mike Reilly, on training camp:
“Brett has evolved as a fighter. He’s always been a tremendous athlete but now he’s a more well-rounded fighter. He’s developed so much over the past year and especially in this camp.”
“He is working as hard as he ever has. He is in better shape than ever, so I can now push him harder and expand the training to be much more complex. All of this is possible because he’s evolving.”
“We have new wrinkles in training, new sparing partners and sessions. With his striking in top form, I can have Brett focus on other facets of the game: grappling, submission defense, throws and kicks. We are coming in from new angles, we found a new range. We have taken conditioning to a new level. Fedor is in for a shock.”
