The special bonuses, worth an additional $60,000 on top of their standard salaries, were awarded to Sonnen and Marquardt (Fight of the Night), Matt Serra (KO of the Night), and Paulo Thiago (Submission of the Night). The full fighter payouts are listed after the jump.
This Week’s Edition of Random MMA Stuff You Don’t See Everyday
Written By: Dallas Winston (TheGarv.com)
First up on the docket is Joe Rogan’s penis. What? Are you saying you do, in fact, see that everyday?
Perhaps an explanation is necessary: Rogan has released an informational mini-documentary (above) that captures the morally questionable act of “meat gazing” by a fellow 10th Planet BJJ team member. Just remind yourself that you need to be endowed with all of the minuscule and miscellaneous tidbits that are critical to MMA’s foundation if you want to be a certified expert of the sport.
But wait–there’s more. Randy Couture may adhere to the same mild-mannered disguise when he’s not out gallavanting as a super-hero, but the legendary MMA icon has chosen to masquerade as a caped crusader that is different than his traditional alter-ego of Captain America.
Another Possible “Legends” Match: Frank Shamrock vs. Pat Miletich
Written By: Dallas Winston (TheGarv.com)

What’s not to love about a good old fashioned “Legends” match?
We have historic great Randy Couture finally butting heads with inspirational Pride Gran Prix 2000 champion Mark Coleman at UFC 109, with Frank Trigg vs. Matt Serra on the same card, and Renzo Gracie vs. Matt Hughes on the near horizon. The next installment of The Ultimate Fighter will feature long-time UFC light-heavyweight rivals Tito Ortiz and Chuck Liddell as opposing coaches.

Nate Marquardt (fighting out of Denver, CO / 32-8-2) has put together an impressive winning streak starting with a first round TKO of Martin Kampmann at UFC 85. Marquardt followed this up with another TKO victory over UFC veteran Wilson Gouveia at UFC 95, and with his most recent win, a devastating first-round KO of Demian Maia, the Lander, Wyoming native is closing in on a world title shot as he approaches his UFC 109 bout against veteran contender Chael Sonnen. A former Division I All-American wrestler and U.S. Olympic team alternate, Sonnen (fighting out of West Linn, OR / 25-10-1) enters this pivotal showdown after consecutive wins over Dan Miller (UFC 98) and Yushin Okami (UFC 104), and he hopes to make it three in a row with a win over Marquardt.
Winner of four of his last five fights, UFC veteran Mike Swick (fighting out of San Jose, CA / 14-3) is a former middleweight contender who has found even more success at 170 pounds. Known for his fast hands and knockout power, Swick will now have to go through Paulo Thiago (fighting out of Brasilia, Brazil / 12-1) if he hopes to put himself in the title mix. Thiago stormed onto the UFC scene last year by handing Swick’s teammate Josh Koscheck the first and only TKO loss of his career at UFC 95. In his last bout, at UFC 106 last November, Thiago scored his second Octagon victory by outpointing Jacob Volkmann.
Brazilian jiu-jitsu wizard Demian Maia (fighting out of Sao Paulo, Brazil / 11-1) is known for his world-class submission skills. Maia made his first appearance in the Octagon at UFC 77 and submitted Ryan Jensen, kicking off a five fight submission streak that also saw him defeat Ed Herman, Jason MacDonald, Nate Quarry and Chael Sonnen. But Maia will have his work cut out for him as he takes on the always dangerous Dan Miller (fighting out of Whippany, NJ / 11-2 1 NC). A New Jersey native, Miller is a talented wrestler who also has a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Since joining the UFC, Miller is 3-1, and he now faces his greatest challenge yet in Maia.
Former welterweight champion Matt Serra (fighting out of East Meadow, NY / 16-6) emerged as one of the UFC’s true superstars with his stirring first round knockout of Georges St-Pierre in 2007. But Serra – the first American to earn a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt under the legendary Renzo Gracie – was no overnight sensation, having already faced the likes of BJ Penn, Din Thomas, Chris Lytle and Yves Edwards over the course of his career. On February 6th, fresh from an exciting Fight of The Night with Matt Hughes last May, Serra returns to the Octagon.
World-class wrestler and perennial contender Frank Trigg (fighting out of Las Vegas, NV / 19-7) is a veteran of six UFC fights, including two classic battles with then champion Matt Hughes and two finishing wins against Renato Verissimo and Dennis Hallman. This February, the 37-year-old – who has won four of his last five bouts – looks to begin another UFC winning streak.
Winner of season six of The Ultimate Fighter®, Mac Danzig (fighting out of Los Angeles, CA / 19-7-1) has faced some of the best lightweights the UFC has to offer in the form of Clay Guida, Josh Neer, Mark Bocek, and Jim Miller, and he has a well-earned reputation as one of the most complete 155-pounders in the game. The MMA veteran will be put to the test again in Justin Buchholz (Fighting out of Sacramento, CA / 9-4), a hard-charging native of Fairbanks, Alaska who has finished all nine of his pro victories.
A veteran with one-punch knockout power, Melvin Guillard (Fighting out of New Orleans, LA / 41-9-3 1 NC) is sure to bring more of his exciting brand of fighting to the Octagon on February 6th. Now training with former foe Joe Stevenson in Albuquerque, Guillard hopes to show off some new tricks against UFC newcomer Ronys Torres (fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil / 18-1). Just 24 years old, Torres is already a world-class groundfighter with a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt and the style to give anyone a rough night.
One of the lightweight division’s top prospects, Phillipe Nover (Fighting out of Brooklyn, NY / 6-2-1) is a finalist from season eight of The Ultimate Fighter and he is looking for his first Octagon win against another Ultimate Fighter alumnus, Rob Emerson, (Fighting out of Irvine, CA / 10-8, 1 NC). The California-based fighter, who owns UFC wins over Keita Nakamura and Manny Gamburyan, has trained with the likes of BJ Penn and Jose Aldo for this bout, and he’s going to be ready for anything come February 6th.
Former World Extreme Cagefighting® light heavyweight champion Brian Stann (fighting out of Scranton, PA / 8-2) has made quite an impact in the UFC as well, defeating Steve Cantwell and Rodney Wallace in his last two bouts. The veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps will be taking on a newcomer to the UFC, Phil Davis (fighting out of San Diego, CA / 4-0), at UFC 109. The 25-year old Davis is a 2008 NCAA National wrestling champion and a four-time All-American for Penn State. Add in his unbeaten pro MMA record, and Davis is a formidable opponent for anyone at 205 pounds.
Known as “The Thrashing Machine”, Tim Hague (fighting out of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada / 10-2) looks to bring his heavy hands and submission skills to Las Vegas against decorated wrestler Chris Tuchscherer (fighting out of Fargo, ND / 17-2, 1 NC). With a submission win over Pat Barry already on his resume, Hague has shown that he can handle himself in Octagon, but he will be up against another solid heavyweight in Tuchscherer, a two-time Division II All-American wrestler who has also won seven fights by knockout in his professional MMA career.
Known for his ground game, Mostapha Al Turk (Fighting out of London, England / 6-5) hopes to utilize his skills to score his first victory in the UFC. Standing across the Octagon will be a man with a last name familiar to all fight fans in Rolles Gracie (Fighting out of New York, NY / 3-0) True to the Gracie name, Rolles is a decorated jiu-jitsu practitioner, and he has ended all three of his pro bouts via submission. On February 6th, he plans on showing the world what the next generation of Gracie fighter looks like.

“UFC 109: Relentless” video preview
Written By: ProMMA.info
It’s the clash of legends UFC fans have waited ten years for when Hall of Famers Randy “The Natural” Couture and Mark “The Hammer” Coleman finally square off in a battle for the ages. “UFC 109: Relentless” takes place on Saturday, Feb. 6, live on pay-per-view from the Mandalay Bay Events Center, in Las Vegas, Nev.
Incidentally, BetUS.com has the odds for this fight at:
Randy Couture -400
Mark Coleman +300
Shawn Tompkins trains Mark Coleman to fight former boss, Randy Couture
Written By: Eduardo Cruz (MMAmania.com)

Quoteworthy:
“It’s just business. Anyone who’s ever spoken to Randy, as far as competition, that’s how he feels, too. For Randy, it’s about the fight, not the drama, he’s real cool about it. We talked about it. I let his camp know first. I started working with Mark for the Stephan Bonnar fight [at UFC 100]. I have my own team now, and this is how I make my living and how my family survives, so if Mark Coleman comes to me and asks me to coach him in a matchup against another UFC Hall of Famer, I’m going to say yes. It’s nothing personal. It should happen for the sport and the fans, and when it’s all said and done, Randy and I will still be friends, and I’ll still respect him for everything he’s done for me.”
Famed mixed martial arts trainer Shawn Tompkins left Xtreme Couture in October 2009 to run his own fight team and there wasn’t any (reported) bad blood with Randy Couture, which made his departure easier.. But now, he has been working with Mark Coleman and the irony of the destiny came into his path and put him against his former boss in the upcoming main event of UFC 109: “Relentless” on Feb. 6. Do you think Tompkins will give “The Hammer” all the tips and tricks to stop “The Natural?”
The cloning of Randy Couture
Written By: ProMMA.info
Former UFC Heavyweight and Light Heavyweight Champion Randy Couture gets cloned (life casted) by Amalgamated Dynamics, Inc. Now that is cool.
Oscar Winning Character Effects Studio in 2009 had Randy Couture – UFC Legend – out to their studio and made a life like portrait of The Natural. The cast is so realistic in detail that even at close inspection it’s just plain creepy on how good it is!

PLUS JOSH KOSCHECK vs. PAULO THIAGO II
ANTONIO ROGERIO NOGUEIRA vs. BRANDON VERA
NATE MARQUARDT vs. CHAEL SONNEN
MATT SERRA vs. FRANK TRIGG
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 6, 2010
Live from the Mandalay Bay Events Center – Tickets on Sale Saturday, Dec. 12 at 10 a.m. PT
Las Vegas, NV (USA) – In 1998, two of the United States’ greatest amateur wrestlers – Randy “The Natural” Couture and Mark “The Hammer” Coleman – were scheduled to meet in a relatively new proving ground called the Ultimate Fighting Championship. That mixed martial arts bout at UFC 17 never happened due to injury, but on Saturday, February 6th, nearly 12 years and six UFC championships later, Couture and Coleman finally square off at UFC 109: Relentless, presented by Bud Light and live on pay-per-view from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nev., for a colossal meeting of Hall of Famers over a decade in the making.
Plus, red-hot welterweight contender Josh Koscheck gets a chance to avenge his lone knockout loss against Brazil’s Paulo Thiago in the co-main event, along with pivotal showdowns featuring Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs. Brandon Vera, Nate Marquardt vs. Chael Sonnen and Matt Serra vs. Frank Trigg.
“Couture vs. Coleman is one of those dream matchups that fans have always talked about,” said UFC President Dana White. “And when you consider that these are two of the greatest wrestlers turned mixed martial artists ever, and it’s the first time that two guys who have already earned their way into the UFC Hall of Fame are fighting each other, this is not only an intriguing matchup, but a historic one.
Tickets for UFC 109 are priced at $600, $400, $300, $200, $100 and $50, not including applicable service charges, and go on sale Saturday, Dec. 12 at 10 a.m. PT at all Las Vegas Ticketmaster locations (select Smith’s Food and Drug Centers and Ritmo Latino). Ticket sales are limited to eight (8) per person. To charge by phone with a major credit card, call Ticketmaster at (800) 745-3000. Tickets also are available for purchase at UFC.com, www.mandalaybay.com or www.ticketmaster.com.
UFC® Fight Club™ members will have the opportunity to purchase tickets to this event Thursday, Dec. 10 at 10 a.m. PT via www.UFC.com. A special Internet ticket pre-sale will be available to UFC newsletter subscribers Friday, Dec. 11 at 10 a.m. PT. To access this presale, users must register for the UFC newsletter through www.UFC.com.
UFC 109 will be available live on pay-per-view on iN DEMAND, DIRECTV, DISH Network, TVN, BellTV, Shaw Communications and Viewer’s Choice Canada for a suggested retail price of $44.95 ($49.95/Canada) for standard definition or high-definition broadcasts (where available).
A five-time UFC champion who has reached the top of the mountain in both the heavyweight and light heavyweight divisions, the ageless Randy Couture (fighting out of Las Vegas, Nev.) is coming off a unanimous decision victory over light heavyweight contender Brandon Vera at UFC 105 in November, and with 14 career UFC wins over the likes of Chuck Liddell, Tito Ortiz, Vitor Belfort, Pedro Rizzo and Tim Sylvia, “The Natural” is used to facing the best of the best. On February 6th, he will finally get his opportunity to take on “The Hammer”.
“Mark Coleman is another classic matchup for me,” said Couture. “Like (Antonio Rodrigo) Nogueira, this is a fight that was supposed to happen a long time ago and is finally now a reality. Mark has a tremendous wrestling pedigree, and his collegiate and freestyle background has taken him a long way in MMA. I look forward to testing my skills and fighting spirit against another UFC Hall of Fame fighter.”
The Godfather of Ground and Pound, Mark Coleman (fighting out of Columbus, Ohio) used that strategy to earn the first UFC heavyweight championship and a spot in the UFC Hall of Fame. A former NCAA Division I national champion wrestler at Ohio State now fighting at light heavyweight, “The Hammer” returned to the Octagon in 2009 after a successful career in Japan with a memorable battle against Mauricio Rua and a victory over Stephan Bonnar, and on February 6th, he will begin his quest for a title at 205 pounds as he takes on fellow legend Randy Couture.
“This is by far the biggest fight of my career,” Coleman said. “I have nothing but respect both inside and outside of the Octagon for Randy Couture. He is one of the greatest in the history of MMA. It’s an honor to accept this challenge to fight him and a win here would be one of the top highlights of my career. I expect to win, and will prepare for a war. I will do all I can to make this an exciting fight for the fans.”
A fighter willing to fight anyone at anytime, Josh Koscheck (fighting out of Fresno, Calif.) is coming off one of the biggest wins of his career, as he made a statement to the welterweight division by submitting rising star Anthony Johnson at UFC 106. But the 32-year-old former NCAA Division I national champion wrestler is not about to rest on his laurels; instead he will look for a dose of redemption against Paulo Thiago as he continues on his road to a world title shot.
“I am training super hard right now,” Koscheck said. “This is a big fight for me because I lost the first time. I fought him last February and I’m fighting him again this February but this time I am going to be the one knocking him out. I promise you this fight will not go out of the first round.”
A decorated grappler with knockout power, 28-year-old Paulo Thiago (fighting out of Brasilia, Brazil) made his name on the international scene with his first round TKO of Koscheck in February 2009, and after a memorable battle with Jon Fitch and a victory over Jacob Volkmann last year, Thiago looks to kick off his 2010 campaign in style by repeating his spectacular win over “Kos”.
“Josh Koscheck is a great fighter who I had a lot of respect for before our first fight and who I still respect today,” said Thiago. “But I am still as hungry as I was the first time we fought, and I will do everything I can to repeat my victory on February 6th.”
A former PRIDE star that kicked the door open in his UFC debut, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) needed less than two minutes to knock out dangerous contender Luiz Cane at UFC 106 in November. The twin-brother of former PRIDE and UFC heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, the 33-year-old Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt and former Pan-Am Games boxing medalist is deadly wherever the fight goes, a fact he plans on introducing to Brandon Vera at UFC 109.
Like Nogueira, Brandon Vera (fighting out of San Diego, Calif.) is a feared striker and ground fighter who enjoys nothing better than a good ol’ fashioned war in the Octagon. Winner of three UFC bouts since moving to the 205-pound weight class, and fresh from a hard-fought three round scrap with Randy Couture, “The Truth” is more focused and determined than ever to destroy any opposition in his path, beginning with Rogerio Nogueira.
One of the leading contenders for a shot at the middleweight title, Nate Marquardt (fighting out of Denver, Colo.) has left little doubt that he is ready for a rematch with Anderson Silva after decisive knockouts of Martin Kampmann, Wilson Gouveia, and Demian Maia. But there is still one more obstacle in the former King of Pancrase’s way, and on February 6th, he gets the chance to remove fellow contender Chael Sonnen from his path.
A former U.S. Olympic alternate and two-time NCAA national champion, Chael Sonnen (fighting out of West Linn, Ore.) has used his strong wrestling pedigree to secure 25 wins in his mixed martial arts career, and with wins over Yushin Okami, Dan Miller, and previously unbeaten WEC champion Paulo Filho, the time has come for Sonnen to make his case for a shot at the 185-pound crown.
Former welterweight champion Matt Serra (fighting out of East Meadow, N.Y.) emerged as one of the UFC’s true superstars with his stirring first round knockout of Georges St-Pierre in 2007.
World-class wrestler and perennial contender Frank Trigg (fighting out of Las Vegas, Nev.) is a veteran of six UFC fights, including two classic battles with then champion Matt Hughes and two finishing wins against Renato Verissimo and Dennis Hallman. This February, the 37-year-old – who has won four of his last five bouts – looks to begin another UFC winning streak.
